Woodborough’s Heritage
Woodborough, a Sherwood Forest Village, recorded in Domesday
The results of the Graveyard Survey are covered on the following five pages and represent the 2010 recording of all external and internal memorial headstones, pre 1900.
This schedule has been produced by a combination of methods including examination of the memorials in the following manner:
1. Visual examination under various light conditions.
2. Examination of digital photographic records.
3. Cross checking with the parish records.
4. Cross checking with records from a WI survey conducted in 1982.
It is believed these schedules now represent the most complete record of memorial data leaving only 15 headstones unidentified.
Whilst every care has been made to record the memorial data accurately, errors cannot be ruled out. Spelling errors of names both on the memorials and in the parish records have been observed as well as inconsistencies in recording dates.
The four pages of external memorial records have been compiled by members of the Woodborough Photographic Recording Group. The fifth and final page on internal memorials was compiled by Nottinghamshire County Council archaeology department.

There is a PDF plan of the Churchyard on our page ‘117 Churchyard Survey of Memorials’, this plan is clickable and reveals a PDF enlargement showing the location of all plots.
Additionally, St Swithun’s PCC has provided space in the tower vestry for a poster size plan of the Churchyard and this can be found located inside the church beyond the organ screen. This page was updated 14th October 2017.
